Pruett’s journey in racing began in 1986 as a teenager working as a mechanic. Over the next 20 years, he built a career as an engineer and team manager across open-wheel and sports car racing, working in CART, the IRL IndyCar Series, IMSA, World Challenge, Indy Lights, Formula Atlantic, Pro Mazda, and FF2000. His deep technical knowledge and hands-on experience shaped his unique perspective when he transitioned to journalism in 2006.

Since then, Pruett has become one of the most respected voices in motorsports media, covering domestic and international racing for a variety of platforms. He regularly contributes to RACER Magazine, Road & Track, and other outlets while also running the Marshall Pruett Podcast, which has grown into a fan-driven platform featuring interviews, technical discussions, and historical deep dives into the sport. Pruett’s work is characterized by his commitment to telling the stories of motorsports beyond just the results. Whether diving into the history of diversity in IndyCar, amplifying underrepresented voices, or breaking down the technical intricacies of racing, his reporting offers depth and context that go beyond the surface. His podcast, launched in 2016, quickly gained traction, reaching one million downloads in just 17 months and doubling that number in the following 10 months. With a mix of fan interaction, live trackside recordings, and diverse topics, the show has become an essential part of the motorsports media landscape.
